Simple, but Not Boring: Embracing Everyday Style

Simple, but Not Boring: Embracing Everyday Style

I’ve really enjoyed focusing more on my style over the last few years. I have always loved shopping and accessories, and there is no better feeling than when an outfit feels “put together” in a way that is deeply personal. I draw inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram, travel, and magazines, but I’ve found that trusting your gut and reworking what you already own often leads to the most stylish outcomes. To me, being stylish is about so much more than what others think of your outfit; it’s about being comfortable and confident, taking the time to express yourself, and feeling like the best version of yourself.

What Does Everyday Style Look Like?

For me, everyday style shouldn't take a ton of time. I love having classic pieces that fit well and pair together effortlessly. I purge my closet regularly so I’m not surrounded by clothes that don’t feel right. Through working with my friend, Carson Love, I’ve also learned that alterations and proper maintenance, like investing in a small sweater shaver, go a long way toward helping you love your wardrobe.

Carson also helped me realize that you often have to try on many things before finding "the one." It is worth bringing ten pairs of jeans into a dressing room to find the perfect fit, and taking advantage of alterations (which are free at Nordstrom!) to adjust lengths or waist gapping.

When shopping, I try not to add pieces that would require an entirely new wardrobe just to wear them. I also love accessorizing with solid-gold jewelry, like my Yearly Co. collection, because those pieces never need to be removed and transition seamlessly from leggings to black-tie events. Sometimes updating my wardrobe means adding a "fun" piece, like a colorful sweater, a dramatic dress, or a silk two-piece set. Sometimes it just means swapping my old straight-leg denim for a wider, darker wash or replacing basic black layering tanks. I’ve noticed that if my shoes and bag coordinate, or if I add a belt or scarf for interest, I feel more polished. I truly love the act of putting an outfit together; it makes me feel my best, especially after going through cancer treatment when my appearance felt so far from my "normal" self.

Embracing Everyday Style in 2026

I have a bold plan for 2026: I am taking a break from online shopping. I’m going to attempt a “No-Buy March” to see how it feels. I’ve realized that the dopamine hit of filling an online cart quickly becomes a headache when I’m stuck trying things on, processing returns, and running out of closet space.

I will make a few intentional purchases at the beginning of 2026 to fill any remaining gaps, but I want to be as mindful as possible moving forward. While I still love supporting local boutiques and shopping in person, the flood of marketing emails and the often-disappointing fit of online orders has added too much to my mental load. I’m ready for a break! I’ll be sharing updates on how it goes. Cheers to 2026 and leaning into simplicity.
