Honoring Milestones: Why Commemorative Jewelry Matters
My husband and I just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary.
This time it was my husband’s turn to open a Yearly Co. box. His original wedding ring was basic and bought online. I always thought it was funny for the husband of a jeweler not to have a ring that was handmade with meaning. I chose solid 14k yellow gold for this new band made in our studio.
I’ve been thinking about the past 18 months since my breast cancer diagnosis, the past 10 years as entrepreneurs, and 15 years since we said ‘I do.’
We have faced our fair share of challenges and if marriage is a mountain, I think we’re standing on a peak. Sometimes we have had to drag each other up the mountain, sometimes one of us has had to push the other, and now we are holding hands standing shoulder to shoulder looking back at that journey with awe and a new sense of gratitude. I chose ‘in sickness and in health’ to engrave inside his new ring, a vow that we have lived out and has much deeper meaning today than it did on 10.30.10.
Partnership is never easy, but I’m so grateful for the life we have built and the opportunity to grow together and raise two amazing girls together. Our blessings are bigger than our troubles, and our friendship has deepened and strengthened over 15 years of real life
My bangle:
I chose our newly launched Diamond Eternity bangle to add to my stack. Some years the design feels very metaphorical and reflective of the year. But honestly, this diamond studded bangle with unique shapes and textured is just fun. I first spotted this style on a sourcing trip and loved the delicate texture and special design. When I look down at my stack, I’m struck by all the days that came together to create these 15 years.
I feel so fortunate that this story is mine and that it’s represented in this beautiful golden stack of bangles I wear on my wrist.
Why commemorative jewelry matters:
Marking milestones with your jewelry is so impactful and special because it means something to you. Wearable stories, emotions and moments set in precious metal and stones that will carry on beyond our years.
I love the idea of wearing pieces that bring to mind the happiest memories, people we love, or accomplishments we are proud of. And investing in solid gold fine jewelry means that those pieces can be worn for generations, passed down and enjoyed for their beauty and their story.
