What I Packed For A Family Trip To Miami & More
My Family Spring Break to Miami
For our family Spring Break trip this year, we went to Miami. I had visited for work in January and loved the vibe, the food, and the weather. We were originally booked at the Andaz (where I stayed in January and would highly recommend!), but due to some weather-related travel issues, we had to move our dates back a few days and switch hotels. We ended up at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach (so thankful they fall under Marriott points!) and we had such a great time.
My Packing Strategy
When packing for trips like this, I really do my best to try things on, coordinate my outfits, and pare down to the bare minimum. While it’s always fun to have a fresh outfit for dinner, my tried-and-true beach outfits and athleisure tend to be easy to repeat.
I am newly obsessed with the ALTA app for my closet; I recently uploaded everything I own to it. It takes basic, wrinkled, badly lit closet pics and turns your clothes into "shoppable," e-commerce-looking images. I scrolled through the app to do a little "digital styling" and then arranged everything I was thinking of bringing on a wooden clothing rack in my room. This is my favorite way to get started and stay organized!
I learned from my friend Carson (@carsonmlove on IG) that when packing, it’s really the shoes that will get you! I try to make sure I’m not bringing a pair of shoes for just one outfit, and I ensure my accessories can be used more than once. I tried on everything I needed to create my outfits and then added one or two alternate pieces just in case. And of course, I still managed to overpack!
Luggage & Gear
I really try to stick to a carry-on these days. After an intense luggage debate, I am still using my very basic Target carry-on. Weirdly, luggage is one thing I just can’t get myself to spend money on, and this one has held up fine! I also always bring my Calpak Luka duffel; it’s amazing how much it fits while still being able to tuck under an airline seat. It really helps me stay organized while traveling.
Sunscreen & Skincare
I brought my skincare and makeup favorites and linked them in this post. I cannot recommend the Saint Jane sunscreen enough—it’s like a makeup primer and sunscreen in one! Fre Skincare is amazing for body sunscreen, and Supergoop Glow Screen gives a pretty shimmer for your chest and shoulders as you reapply throughout the day. These Baggu bags were also ideal for zipping up sunscreen, wet swimsuits, and toiletries.
Trip Favorites
The Beek sandals are truly the MOST comfortable I’ve ever worn, they were amazing for travel days and walking down the beach. I got this Missoni striped button-down at my favorite local discount designer shop, UAL, and it was perfect for dinner and as a swimsuit cover-up. I love a fun or unexpected piece to take on a trip! And I found one on MAJOR sale on The Real Real here!! I used both a $35 Target straw tote and this black woven bag from “Hunting Season,” which is such a great shape and fits right inside my Calpak for the plane. I did not prepare for how chilly the evenings would be, so I was so glad to have my favorite Frame denim jacket (which I also found 60% off on the Outnet) - I wear a medium so I’d say size down. I am loving the cut of the Left on Friday suits and Beach Riot - I went for a fun red and pink high waisted bikini which felt perfect for Miami. As always I wore my Yearly Co. pieces on the plane, at the beach, in the pool and to dinner. I love having jewelry that feels special but truly never needs to be taken off.
Where We Ate
Zaytina @ The Ritz: So good! And it just opened in Nashville.
Joe’s Stone Crab: A Miami classic and a perfect family outing.
Cecconi’s: Located in the Soho House; my daughter said she had the best pasta of her life there!
Ocean Grill at the Setai: Delicious food and a fun atmosphere with a great view of the beach.
My husband and girls loved this trip as much as I did, and we are already talking about going back to Miami!
