My Favorite Project I've Done at Yearly in a While
The planning of this shoot was so much fun and when we finally arrived we were buzzing with energy. Ben’s work had been so inspiring, the way he captured the movement, beauty, colors and depth of the landscape of the Western life was what made me want to work with him. I knew our jewelry would look and feel powerful, beautiful and special in this setting. My sister, her husband and her girls live such a different life than I do, but I was excited to show that our jewelry could (and should) be worn in this rugged setting.
The moment I stepped out into the fields off of the ATV as the sun came up over the mountains was purely magical.
I watched Ben direct my sister and my nieces, capturing the deep blues and distressing on their denim and Carhart jackets, and the glint of the shiny gold in their stacks of bangles. I felt such immense pride for what I had created in Yearly Co., for what my sister had created in her family’s Ranch, and for the tradition that was started by my grandparents and now lives on.
For me, starting a jewelry company was always about the story. I made these gold bangles to tell our family’s story and to help women tell theirs. So this kind of visual storytelling just brings all of those feelings to the surface and makes me so proud and excited to share. Launching this video was such a joy (although the morning of the launch I was sitting watching it on my laptop from a hotel room on day 3 of no power during the crazy Nashville ice storm).
I was so inspired seeing my nieces roping and riding and my sister and her husband sharing the work that they do with such respect for the land, the animals and their customers.
Working with Ben and his team who were every bit as excited as we were about what we were capturing just made this experience the ultimate dream. At Yearly we encourage women to mark milestones, tell their stories, not to let those special days go by without capturing the joy and pride and excitement. And this shoot did exactly that for me. Being able to watch this footage and think about how far I’ve come from making bangles in my garage to being able to hire an incredibly talented videographer and visionary to capture my jewelry on my sister’s family ranch was a moment of true awe. There are days that my “job” feels like a dream come true, and this was one of those days.
