Our Trip to Rome, Italy.

Our Trip to Rome, Italy.

My husband and I planned a bucket list trip to Rome, Italy and Brac, Croatia as a celebration after the long and difficult year that 2024 was.

We had the absolute best time and I cannot recommend this trip enough!

We started in Rome for three days to adjust to the time change and do some sight seeing and shopping. We flew from Nashville to Detroit and then directly to Rome. We have tried to choose an evening flight when going to Europe because landing in the morning forces you to sleep and quickly adjust to the time change.

We used my friend Dainee from DR Luxury Travel to plan this trip and I cannot recommend her enough! I’ll be sharing an interview with her soon with more details about how a trip advisor works.

We stayed at the Palazzo Ripetta hotel which was beautiful, modern, charming and in a perfect location, especially for an adults only trip. We had a tour of the Roman Forum and Colosseum booked as well as the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s. Having these tours in the mornings and afternoons free to walk, shop and explore Rome was a great schedule for us. We like to enjoy some art and history but also like flexibility and relaxation time when traveling.

I was absolutely blown away by the history we learned about at the Roman Forum and Colosseum. We were there in early June and it was already quite hot, so I’d recommend bringing a small fan, wearing “cooling shorts” like these, and dressing in layers. My favorite touring outfit is comfortable and fashionable sneakers, a pair of silk or linen shorts, a tank and a light button down over it. For the Vatican and any church tours, you may need a longer dress or skirt closer to your knees, and bring a light wrap for your shoulders.

Our favorite restaurants in Rome

Ginger - we stumbled upon this while walking and shopping. It was light and fresh and had the BEST fruit I’ve ever eaten. A great break from pasta dinners.

Matricianella - WOW. This was a traditional restaurant near the Spanish steps (we walked from our hotel) and everything was excellent. The freshly shaved truffle pasta was a highlight for me.

Another fun visit is the Bulgari hotel. Make a reservation at the rooftop bar before dinner for an appetizer and cocktail. The setting is stunning!

Rome had not been on the top of my list to visit but I am so glad we did! The history, charm, luxury shopping, quaint cafes and fun city energy were even better than I expected.
